My Sonnet

Goddam phoneys, they’re all phoneys at school,

Game my ass, some game, there’s only one rule,

The grass is greener on the other side,

Where all the hot-shots are, where life is denied.

Look for innocence; it’s in children’s eyes,

Purity and youth can never tell lies,

I want to protect them, save them from hell,

They can’t see that side of life.

The baseball mitt I hold close completes me,

It belonged to my dear brother Allie,

His ginger hair, reflecting the bright sun,

The times we had, they were so goddam fun.

When New York is trapped in a sheet of snow

Where do the ducks go when its cold?
